Diligence & Assessments

Independent scientific, regulatory, and commercial assessments of diagnostic assays, technology portfolios, and companies — for investors, acquirers, and the teams seeking their support.

Why ResearchDx

Diligence from people who build and run diagnostic tests

ResearchDx provides expert assistance with questions about marketability, funding sources, commercial partners, patenting and other protection methods, new business startup considerations, licensure, regulatory requirements, and reimbursement — including local coverage determinations (LCDs), PLA and CPT coding, and MolDX applications.

Because we operate a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory and support FDA submissions every day, we review an assay the way a regulator, a payer, and a laboratory director would — and tell you plainly what stands between the technology and the market.

Two kinds of assessment

Evaluating an opportunity, or building one

Investors and acquirers use technical due diligence to understand what they are buying. Developers use a commercialization assessment to plan the path to market.

For investors & acquirers

Technical Due Diligence

Technical due diligence (TDD) examines an assay, technology portfolio, or organization from a technical perspective: its products, technical infrastructure and architecture, product roadmap, services, practices, and staffing. It is usually carried out before major corporate events.

  • Funding rounds: angel and venture capital investment
  • Mergers and acquisitions (M&A)
  • Initial public offerings (IPOs)
  • Company valuations

Who initiates it: usually the investor, but companies often commission TDD before seeking funds. We can work alongside an in-house team or as the independent third party.

For developers

Commercialization Assessment

A structured look at what it will take to bring your product to market — regulatory, reimbursement, laboratory, and commercial — so you can plan, budget, and raise with confidence.

  • A commercialization roadmap for a product in development
  • A SWOT analysis of a competitor’s product
  • Strategic guidance when entering a new product area
  • Contracted experts to supplement in-house expertise

Best for: startups and established companies planning a new diagnostic product or preparing to raise.

What we evaluate

Every factor between a technology and the market

Each assessment is scoped to your question, drawing on the areas below.

Technology & assay performance

  • Analytical validity: accuracy, precision, sensitivity, specificity, limits of detection
  • Clinical validity and supporting evidence
  • Data quality, reproducibility, and study design

Regulatory pathway

  • FDA classification and pathway: 510(k), De Novo, or PMA
  • Laboratory-developed test and CLIA considerations
  • Quality system readiness against QMSR and ISO 13485
  • EU IVDR and other international markets

Reimbursement & coding

  • CPT and PLA coding strategy
  • MolDX applications and technical assessments
  • Local coverage determinations (LCDs)
  • Evidence gaps that could limit coverage

Laboratory & operations

  • CLIA certification, CAP accreditation, and state licensure
  • Technical infrastructure, SOPs, and quality records
  • Capacity, scalability, and staffing

Intellectual property

  • Patenting and other protection methods
  • How the technology is differentiated
  • Questions to resolve with your patent counsel

Market & commercial strategy

  • Marketability and competitive landscape
  • Commercial partners and funding sources
  • Product roadmap and startup considerations

How it works

A focused engagement on your timeline

1

Scope

We agree on the decision you need to make, the questions that matter, the documents to review, and the deadline. Work begins under NDA.

2

Review

Our scientists, regulatory, and laboratory experts review the data room, interview the technical team, and visit the site when needed.

3

Report & readout

You receive a written assessment of strengths, risks, and gaps, with recommendations, and a call to walk through the findings.

What you receive

Findings you can act on

Typical deliverables

  • Executive summary for decision-makers
  • Risk-ranked findings across technical, regulatory, reimbursement, and operational areas
  • Gap analysis with recommended remediation
  • Regulatory and reimbursement roadmap with key milestones
  • Readout and Q&A with your team
